What Is Recovery Coaching & How Can It Help You?

Recovery is not a one-size-fits-all journey. Whether you’re working toward sobriety, exploring harm reduction, or trying to improve your mental well-being, recovery coaching provides personalized, compassionate support to help you navigate challenges and build a fulfilling life.

What Is Recovery Coaching?

Recovery coaching is a nonjudgmental, client-centered approach that meets individuals where they are in their journey. Unlike therapy, which focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, recovery coaching provides practical guidance, accountability, and real-world strategies for overcoming obstacles and creating lasting change.

As a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA), Certified Addiction Recovery Coach (CARC), Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor-Trainee (CASAC-T), New York Certified Peer Specialist (NYCPS), and International Certified Family Recovery Coach (ICFRC), I’ve worked with individuals from all walks of life—teenagers navigating mental health crises, adults in treatment courts, and families struggling to support a loved one in recovery. My role is to provide support without judgment and help individuals find a path forward that works for them.

How Can Recovery Coaching Help?

Recovery coaching is tailored to each person’s unique needs and can support individuals in many ways, including:

Navigating Early Recovery: The first steps toward change can be overwhelming. Recovery coaching provides structured support to help individuals build routines, manage triggers, and find a sense of stability. I’ve worked with clients transitioning from inpatient care who needed help creating a relapse prevention plan that fit their real-life circumstances.

Support for Family Members: Many families struggle to understand addiction and mental health challenges. Through Family Recovery Coaching, I help loved ones set healthy boundaries, improve communication, and offer support without enabling harmful behaviors. I’ve guided parents of teenagers facing substance use challenges, helping them find the balance between compassion and accountability.

Harm Reduction & Overdose Prevention: Not everyone is ready for complete sobriety, and that’s okay. Harm reduction strategies help individuals reduce risks, stay safe, and make informed decisions about their health. I’ve provided Narcan training to community members and worked with individuals using harm reduction approaches to minimize the dangers of substance use.

Navigating the Legal System & Treatment Courts: Many individuals in recovery find themselves involved with the legal system. I have experience working with treatment courts, probation programs, and diversion services to help clients access support instead of incarceration. Recovery coaching can assist with court-mandated treatment navigation and advocacy.

Why Recovery Coaching Works

Recovery coaching is based on radical compassion, the stages of change model, and individualized care. There’s no single “right” way to heal—there’s only the path that works for you. My job is to listen, provide guidance, and walk alongside you as you take each step toward a healthier, more fulfilling life.
